Pre-Operative Assessment Before SMILE Pro, a detailed diagnostic workup is performed, including corneal mapping, thickness measurement, and a review of your prescription and eye-health history. This determines whether you are a suitable candidate. On the Day of the Procedure Topical anesthetic eye drops are used to numb the eye before the procedure begins. Patients remain awake throughout. The SMILE Pro Laser Step Using the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser, a lens-shaped lenticule is created within the cornea, and a small 2-4mm incision is made. The laser portion of the procedure takes approximately 9 seconds per eye. The lenticule is then removed through the incision, which reshapes the cornea to correct the refractive error. Immediately After the Procedure Patients are typically observed briefly before being discharged the same day. Post-procedure instructions, including prescribed eye drops, are provided at this stage. Follow-Up Visits Scheduled follow-up appointments allow your surgeon to monitor healing and visual outcomes. Attending these visits as advised is an important part of the overall procedure.
